Scott Joplin Movie Dueling Pianos Competition Scene - 1977
Переглядів 2,6 млн13 років тому
Edit: As of 2014 the Scott Joplin Movie is available on Amazon Instant Video in HD!!! This is the best clip in the movie Scott Joplin (1977) by Universal Studios. It depicts a competition between "professors" (brothel pianists) to win $100 from John Stark in Sedalia, Missouri. Louis Chauvin, who is a better pianist but can't read/write music, teams up with Joplin and unleashes Maple Leaf Rag up...
Roy Eaton captures the spiritual spirit of Joplin’s music Truly as powerful as Vedic meditation
Joplin is truly spiritual!
those dresses...
Ruby :(
I've learned from it now. However let's come back to this cool video
This 1977 clip represents what era? not the 70s, but, 40s? 20s ? ... before?
tom brier would have easily destroyed everybody
Fun fact the old man was actually Eubie Blake and the man lived long enough to witness Joplin himself. Not to mention his composition came out the same year as Joplins Maple leaf rag 🫡
Ragtime occupies a sliver between classical and jazz, like rockabilly transitions between jazz and rock. And technology of music drove the changes. Microphones, tape recorders, speakers, amplifiers. If we record it all, is there anything left for the following generations? It certainly sets the bar higher and higher. And you can see it in the piano competition here. Some just play for their own enjoyment - and stay out of the competitions!
It was lit back then.
So that's where rap battles came from
Hes NSFW
Play it in A Flat 🎶!!!!
According to the documentation, Louis Chauvin could outplay anybody in his time
3:40 what ragtime is it?
This is piano battle rap.
Scott Joplin was the first pop music superstar.
What a beautiful time this was !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
I need to watch this movie
the fact that joplin let chauvin doing his sheet and doing a "mash up" is what makes this scene is really cool, it's shows how genius chauvin and how humble joplin was
Imagine if this actually went down
4:44 the development of the Ragtime music genre.
Tnx for this upload.. and for pusuading Universal to release it in HD.
♥️♥️♥️

3:14 any notes fo this part, it´s cool loop
who is the guy at last playing maple rag?
Louis Chauvin, the 2nd ever member of the 27 club. He died of syphilitic dementia in 1908.
@@SQUAREHEADSAM1912 I thought it's james Scott
I was surprised to hear Thomas the tank engine in that!!!
Scott is an icon for Ragtime! He definitely made it what it is today. I have an interest in writing my own ragtime as a composer myself. Scott Joplin is an inspiration to all piano players alike. He definitely knew the piano like the back of his hand. His music wasn’t popular in those days… well it was, but only with the black community. As segregation was still a thing and he lived in the south if I’m correct. So he played a lot in black bars and cafes. So his music definitely was there for one community. If it was the racist bills that were created, and the racist culture that circled. Scott Joplin would have been much more popular. A man that’s definitely an inspiration to all. And one of my inspirations for piano. If I could go back in time, I would love to see him perform.
nice
And then Little Richard was born
I love how he played Scott's Maple Leaf Rag n Scott wasn't even mad about it lol
We need to watch this film! It's public interest!
You can watch it all on my channel, it's split up and out of order though.
Later in the movie Lando Calrissian jams with Ed Norton!
That's the reverend from 227!!!!

That transition at 4:50 was clean af 👌 🔥
What a marvelous masterpiece
I would say I’m a classical pianist (in training at least) but this video and Scott Joplin in general is the reason I got into piano and the whole 1600-1900 scene of music and I thank Scott for this. I’ve returned to this video several times in the past and I will countinue.
Back again almost at 4 years of piano expirence, and like a lot of childrens dreams mine have died, piano turned from my dream to my side hobby. I still love coming to old videos I used to watch like this one which got me into piano as they relight an old nostalagia but piano has really switched over the years for me

It’s not very hard to find out what Key someone playing in specially if it’s diatonic notes lol
I think Scott was switching keys every couple beats to throw him off haha
If you don't have perfect pitch it can be hard to tell immediately
This six minutes and fifty-two seconds brings me to tears every time.
Bérenger, je sais que tu regardes cette vidéo à l’instant où j’écris ce commentaire. Je voulais juste te dire que je t’aime. Tu me manques ❤️
